Salary by seniority
Medians per level. * = small sample (fewer than 8 postings, indicative). † = modelled estimate from the seniority ratios observed across this dataset (junior ≈ 0.76×, senior ≈ 1.46×, lead/manager ≈ 2.4× the mid-level median) — no direct postings for that cell yet. Full percentile ranges are in the PDF report.

Monthly gross salaries in MYR, medians per seniority level. Data as of August 2026.
Five things that stood out
1. The AI premium is real and large. Data Scientist / AI Engineer is the highest-paid role family at a median of RM 9,200 — roughly 84% above the general software engineer median. Data Engineer (RM 8,500) is right behind it. The market is paying for people who can put data and models into production.
2. Data roles are two different markets. A Data Analyst (median RM 4,200) and a Data Scientist (RM 9,200) share a word in their titles and almost nothing in their pay. The gap — about RM 5,000 a month — is the single biggest "upskilling prize" in the dataset.
3. Infrastructure pays. DevOps / Cloud (RM 7,000) now sits above backend and frontend development at the median, reflecting how much Malaysian companies are investing in cloud migration and reliability.
4. Seniority curves differ sharply by role. Backend development has one of the steepest: RM 6,200 at mid-level, RM 7,900 at senior, RM 15,000 at lead. Network engineering has one of the flattest — which is exactly why so many network engineers cross into cloud roles.
5. The entry band is crowded. QA, IT support, data analysis and general software roles all cluster around RM 4,200–5,000 at the median. What separates careers from there is specialisation — automation skills in QA, cloud skills in infrastructure, modelling skills in data.

Methodology
Figures are aggregated from 1,226 live Malaysian tech job postings with disclosed salaries, compiled by Seekers' research team (data as of August 2026), normalised to monthly gross MYR. Postings for interns and non-monthly compensation are excluded, as are non-MYR salaries. Role families or seniority levels with small samples are flagged or excluded. The dataset refreshes weekly, so figures evolve as the market does — the live salary checker always shows the current numbers.
This is market data, not an offer or guarantee. Use it as a negotiating anchor.
