Oct 27, 2026

How much should you pay a mobile app developer in Malaysia? This guide answers with live data: 98 mobile developer job postings with an advertised salary, collected by Seekers over the six months to 27 October 2026. It covers pay by experience level and by platform (Flutter, iOS, Android and React Native), the hourly equivalent of a monthly salary, and how to set a budget for a hire.

💡 Key takeaway: The typical mobile developer posting in Malaysia advertises RM7,500 a month, with the middle half between RM5,500 and RM10,200. Mid-level roles centre on RM6,200 and senior roles on RM10,000. iOS and Android pay about the same (medians RM9,000 and RM8,800), and Flutter, the most common platform in postings, centres on RM7,000.

Mobile app developer salary in Malaysia by experience level

LevelPostingsLower quartileMedianUpper quartile
All mobile developers98RM5,500RM7,500RM10,200
Mid-level56RM5,200RM6,200RM8,000
Senior27RM7,500RM10,000RM13,500
Lead (small sample)7RM10,200RM11,000RM11,500

By the experience the posting asks for: roles requiring 0 to 2 years centre on RM6,000 (13 postings) and roles requiring 3 to 5 years on RM7,000 (23 postings). Junior titles are rare in the data (5 postings, median RM3,800), so treat that figure as a rough guide only. Levels come from job titles, so "mid-level" includes many postings with no seniority word in the title.

Salary by platform: Flutter, iOS, Android, React Native

Platform in the job titlePostingsLower quartileMedianUpper quartile
Flutter35RM5,500RM7,000RM10,000
iOS17RM6,200RM9,000RM10,000
Android18RM5,500RM8,800RM10,000
React Native (small sample)8RM5,000RM13,000RM14,000

Flutter is the platform named most often, which reflects how many Malaysian companies build one cross-platform app instead of two native ones. Native iOS and Android roles sit higher at the median, but the upper quartile is the same RM10,000 for all three. React Native has too few postings to read much into.

Hourly rate: what a monthly salary works out to

Our data is monthly salaries for employees. To turn one into an hourly figure, the Employment Act's method for monthly-paid staff divides the monthly salary by 26 days, then by the normal hours in a day. With an 8-hour day, that is the monthly salary divided by 208.

Monthly salaryHourly equivalent
RM6,200 (mid-level median)About RM30
RM7,500 (all mobile, median)About RM36
RM10,000 (senior median)About RM48

This is the salary cost per hour, before EPF, SOCSO and other employer costs. Freelance and contract rates are agreed separately and are not in our data, so do not compare them one to one.

How to set the budget for a mobile developer hire

  • Decide native or cross-platform first. A Flutter developer who ships both apps changes the budget more than the choice between iOS and Android does.
  • Pay for ownership, not years. The jump from the mid-level median (RM6,200) to the senior median (RM10,000) is the biggest step in the table. It pays for someone who can own app architecture, releases and store submissions, not just build screens.
  • Write basic salary and allowances separately in the offer. See our job offer letter guide and template.
  • For a foreign hire, check the Employment Pass line. A senior mobile developer at the median of RM10,000 reaches Category II, while the mid-level median of RM6,200 is in Category III, where in our experience applications below RM7,000 are hard to get approved. Check with the EP checker.
  • If the budget is short, consider a mid-level developer you can grow, or a contract developer for a fixed project.
